Slut Chain
I started writing Slut Chain after one particularly bad date. The conversation surrounding consent has become extremely important in recent years, but there is still a gray area. Women tend to gaslight themselves and sweep incidents under the rug that make them feel uncomfortable or threatened. In the case of Slut Chain, an unwanted kiss leads to the death of a young man who didn’t listen when his date tried to resist his advances.
I wanted to create a world that was relatable, yet ridiculous, and would allow people to laugh along with the protagonists while also sympathizing with them. After all, my character is trying to find a connection in a loveless city. I want this story to empower other women who are struggling to find their own voice, and to provide comfort for those who are disappointed by their terrible Hinge dates.
When their famous mother suddenly dies, siblings Vana and Nico Barr must face each other to pick up the pieces. Spanning four years, I’m Not Like You tells the story of grief, betrayal, coming-of-age, and hope, backlit by Hollywood glamour and the global pandemic.
